How EXTRA SAFE Uses Ethereum Protection

EXTRA SAFE makes privacy the default: conversations aren’t linked to personal identifiers, and security starts on your device. In the browser, run private video meetings and secure screen sharing—like Zoom or Google Meet, but more private, seamless, and free. On mobile and tablet, your EXTRA SAFE number lets people reach you privately—just like a dialer—perfect for secure voice calls and encrypted chat on the go.
What you’ll learn
How Ethereum encryption protects voice, video, and chats (not on‑chain)
How calls connect P2P with server‑assisted setup and relay fallback
How the 12‑word Backup Phrase restores your account on another device
Browser vs. App: ephemeral session account vs. permanent account with an EXTRA SAFE number
1) How Ethereum protection works in EXTRA SAFE
- Ethereum encryption: on first open, your device creates an Ethereum‑like account (with a public/private key pair) for your EXTRA SAFE account—the identity behind your EXTRA SAFE number. These keys stay on your device and are used to authenticate you (sign requests and set up sessions) and end‑to‑end encrypt your messages (and file transfer in the browser). You can restore access to your account with the 12‑word Backup Phrase. Note: Communications do not interact with any blockchain—not on‑chain.
- Messages: There are two encrypted chat experiences. First, the meeting chat inside a secure video call—ideal for sharing links and notes—vanishes when the session ends. Second, Disappearing messages between EXTRA SAFE accounts let you set a self‑destruct timer for private conversations. Both are end‑to‑end encrypted with your keys. File transfer (browser) is also end‑to‑end encrypted.
- Audio, video & screen sharing: secured by WebRTC (DTLS/SRTP) during calls and meetings.
2) How calls connect (P2P by default)
- Your app and the other device exchange connection details using our servers (ICE/STUN).
- They attempt a direct device‑to‑device path (P2P).
- If networks block P2P, a TURN relay (e.g., coturn) assists, and our servers can help keep the call stable.
- In all cases, real‑time media is encrypted with WebRTC.
3) Your identity in the app: EXTRA SAFE number
- On first open, the app creates a permanent Ethereum‑like account and your EXTRA SAFE number (a private in‑app identity for calls and chats).
- In the browser, you use meeting links and an ephemeral Ethereum‑like account per session.

4) Recovery made simple (same number, different devices)
- View and copy your 12‑word Backup Phrase in More → Account → Backup Phrase. Store it safely.
- On a new device: More → Account → Restore account → paste the 12 words.
- Your EXTRA SAFE number, contacts, and chats are restored.

5) Get started now
- Calls: dial by EXTRA SAFE number or share yours to be called.
- Meetings (browser & app): host a secure video call; in the browser, share your screen (entire screen, window, or tab). Invite anyone with a link (they can join from a browser).
- File transfer (browser only): share encrypted files from your browser session.
- Messages (app & browser): two encrypted chat types — meeting chat that disappears when the session ends, and Disappearing messages between EXTRA SAFE accounts with a self‑destruct timer; both are end‑to‑end encrypted.
