How to Send Disappearing Messages on the EXTRA SAFE App

EXTRA SAFE protects your identity and minimizes your digital footprint with on‑device encryption keys and messages that disappear on your schedule. Your conversations are anonymous (not linked to your identity) and secured with Ethereum encryption—identical to Ethereum’s, not on‑chain.

How to set a self‑destruct timer for disappearing messages
The two types of encrypted chats in EXTRA SAFE
How encrypted meeting chat works inside secure video calls (and how to use it)
How the security model works (Ethereum encryption + P2P + WebRTC)
Two types of encrypted chats
1. Meeting chat inside a secure video call—ideal for sharing links and notes—vanishes when the session ends.
2. Disappearing messages between EXTRA SAFE accounts—set a self‑destruct timer of 1 minute, 1 hour, 1 day, or 1 week. When the time is up, the message is removed from both devices.

Two types of encrypted chats
How to send disappearing messages (mobile & tablet)
Step 1 — Create your private identity: Open the app to create your EXTRA SAFE number—your private in‑app identity for encrypted messaging and secure calls.
Step 2 — Open Messages and choose a contact: Tap Messages in the bottom bar. Search by EXTRA SAFE number or choose from your contacts.
Step 3 — Set your timer and send: Tap the timer icon next to the send button and choose 1 minute / 1 hour / 1 day / 1 week. Send your message; when the timer is up, it’s deleted from both devices.
Meeting chat in secure video calls (how it works & how to use)
Where to find it: during a secure video call, tap the Chat icon to open the meeting chat panel.
Encryption: meeting chat messages are end‑to‑end encrypted with your keys. Real‑time audio, video, and screen sharing in the call are encrypted with WebRTC.
Delivery & cleanup: Messages may be stored encrypted on our servers for delivery during the session and disappear automatically when the meeting ends—no timer needed.
When to use which chat: use meeting chat for live notes and links during a call; use Disappearing messages for ongoing private conversations outside the meeting, with a timer you control.
How the privacy model works
Ethereum encryption: on first open, your device creates an Ethereum‑like account (public/private key pair) for your EXTRA SAFE account—the account behind your EXTRA SAFE number. Keys stay on your device.
P2P delivery: whenever possible, messages travel device‑to‑device; servers initiate connections and help keep them stable.
Encrypted at rest (for delivery): messages are end‑to‑end encrypted and may be stored encrypted on our servers for delivery, then auto‑deleted per your timer.
WebRTC for calls/meetings: real‑time audio/video is encrypted with WebRTC.
*8Not on‑chain:** communications don’t interact with any blockchain.
Tips & troubleshooting
Set‑and‑forget: once a timer is set, new messages in that chat follow the same lifespan until you change it.
Message not sent? Check connectivity: servers help stabilize delivery when networks are weak.
