In extrasafe.chat your nickname is an optional label on top of your 9-digit EXTRA SAFE number. On first open, the app prompts you to set one — but you can skip it if you prefer. Later, you can edit or remove your nickname anytime in settings. If you skip it, people will simply see your EXTRA SAFE number until they rename you locally.

Step 1 — Choose or edit your nickname

• First open: EXTRA SAFE asks you to pick a nickname. Enter one to be shown in calls and saved lists, or skip it if you prefer.
  

• Later: Go to More → Account → Edit nickname to set, change, or remove it anytime.

Step 2 — How names and numbers show up

In EXTRA SAFE, a “contact” means someone you’ve connected with inside the app — either by entering their number or through an invite link.

When you see someone in your saved list or receive a call, the name that shows follows this order:

• Your label — If you renamed this person inside your app, your label always shows.

• Their nickname — If they set a nickname, it appears.

• Their number — If no nickname is set and you haven’t renamed them, their 9-digit EXTRA SAFE number is displayed.

This provides every user with a secure identity that is not linked to personal details.

Step 3 — Invite links and automatic saves

Share your invite link through the button “Invite Friends” from the home screen, or do it manually from the menu: More → Invite Friends → Share Link. When someone opens your link — whether they already have the app or are installing it for the first time — you’ll both be added to each other’s saved lists automatically.

• If you set a nickname, that’s what they’ll see.

• If you skipped it, they’ll see your EXTRA SAFE Number until they rename you locally, or you’ll edit your nickname later.

Your identity in EXTRA SAFE: number + nickname

• On first open, the app creates a permanent Ethereum‑like account and your EXTRA SAFE number (a private in‑app identity for calls and chats).

• In the browser, you use meeting links and an ephemeral Ethereum‑like account per session.

• Number: your private 9-digit identity in the app, created on your device.

• Nickname: optional label for easier recognition in the app.

• Labels: local names you give people in your app.

Together, these create a flexible system: everyone can recognize who’s who, while no one’s identity is tied to real-world details.
