One Year of EXTRA SAFE: How Private Communication Evolved in 2025

Our first year of private, uninterrupted conversations is coming to an end — and we want to say thank you for being with EXTRA SAFE in 2025.

This year, we focused on removing friction from private communication — making it easier to start a secure call or chat exactly when you need it, without accounts, logins, or unnecessary steps. That focus shaped everything we built throughout the year.

What We Delivered in 2025

Throughout 2025, EXTRA SAFE evolved through real usage and everyday conversations. Each update is built on a shared foundation — private communication that works without personal data and stays out of your way.

March — Browser Lite: Private Calls and Meetings, No Accounts, No Phone Numbers

From day one, we built EXTRA SAFE around a simple idea — that private communication should never rely on personal data.

Private conversations shouldn’t depend on phone numbers, email addresses, real names, or any kind of identity binding.

That’s why in March, we launched EXTRA SAFE Browser Lite — a way to start private conversations directly in your browser, without installing an app or creating an account.

Right from launch, Browser Lite supported direct device-to-device voice calls, video meetings, screen sharing, and end-to-end encrypted messaging and file transfer, all relying on a peer-to-peer topology protected by WebRTC security mechanisms.

Browser Lite marked the beginning of the EXTRA SAFE web experience: a product you can access instantly, from any device, with privacy built in from the very first interaction.

October — Mobile App Launch: Anonymous Chat App with Phone-Like Experience

Private conversations don’t only happen in a browser — they happen on the move, from your phone.
And that secure communication should feel natural and familiar, not technical or fragile.

In October, this vision took shape as we launched the Phone‑Like Experience and Chat Experience and brought the EXTRA SAFE app to the App Store and Google Play, so secure, vanished conversations could start directly from your phone whenever you needed them — and since launch, it has been downloaded by over 400,000 people.

We also introduced invite links to remove friction when connecting with new people: instead of copying a number, you simply send a link, and once the person joins EXTRA SAFE, your contact appears automatically in their list.

Together, these launches made private communication easier to start, easier to use, and easier to share — with anonymity built in from the beginning.

December — Voice Messages and File Sharing

Text messaging alone isn’t always enough. Sometimes it’s easier to explain something with your voice, or share an image or a file instead of describing it.

That’s why we added voice messages, image sharing, and encrypted file sharing directly into chats. All of it works inside the same vanished environment — everything disappears on time, fully encrypted. This lets you communicate more naturally, without sacrificing privacy or control.

More Control Over Who Can Reach You

As your contact lists grew, many of you shared that you wanted clearer control over new connections and faster access to the people you trust.

We introduced a structured contact system: the ability to accept or decline new contacts, share your contact via QR codes or invite links, mark favorite contacts for quick access, and sort your list for easier navigation.

This keeps your conversations intentional — you decide who gets in, who stays at the top, and how you manage your connections.

And Beyond What You Can See

Alongside visible features and launches, a lot of work happened quietly in the background. Throughout the year, we focused on improving call quality, performance, and overall stability, while refining the experience across platforms and strengthening how protection works under the hood.

Many of these changes don’t come with a feature name or announcement — but they influence how conversations feel day to day, especially when you rely on them in real situations.

All of this work ensures your conversations feel effortless and dependable — while everything works quietly behind the scenes.

Looking Ahead to 2026

Instead of a fixed roadmap, we’ll keep moving in directions that make private communication easier to use in everyday life. Some of these directions are already taking shape:

  • More languages, so using EXTRA SAFE feels comfortable in your own language — without workarounds or friction.

  • Desktop and tablet access, letting you stay connected across devices and switch contexts smoothly, whether you’re working, traveling, or at home.

  • Channels, so you can share messages, updates, or announcements with a wider audience — without replies, clutter, or losing control over the conversation.

  • More precise control over call and chat history, so managing recent activity, clearing logs, and staying organized takes less effort.

  • Even more reliable calls and chats, even in poor network conditions.

  • A gentler first experience, with simpler flows that make EXTRA SAFE easier to start using — even for people new to private communication tools.

  • Continuous security work to ensure EXTRA SAFE keeps supporting sensitive, highly confidential conversations without adding complexity.

And more exciting features ahead, shaped around how private communication fits into your everyday life.
