How do I back up my recovery phrase?
You can save an encrypted, password-protected backup of your 12-word recovery phrase to your own Google Drive or iCloud. It's a second copy of your phrase: if your paper copy is lost, you can restore your account from the backup with your backup password.
How the backup works
- •
Encrypted on your device. Your phrase is encrypted on your phone before it leaves it.
- •
Protected with your password. Only someone with the backup password can open the file.
- •
Stored in your own cloud. The file goes to your Google Drive or iCloud account. EXTRA SAFE doesn't keep a copy and can't open it.
Restore your account from a backup
- •
Install EXTRA SAFE on your new phone or computer.
- •
On the start screen, tap Restore Account.
- •
Choose Restore from backup and sign in to the Google Drive or iCloud account where you saved it.
- •
Enter your backup password.
Your EXTRA SAFE number, contacts and wallet are restored.
Choose a strong backup password
- •
Use a password you don't use anywhere else.
- •
Keep it separate from your cloud account password.
- •
Store it somewhere safe. EXTRA SAFE can't reset or recover it.
What if I forget my backup password?
The backup can't be opened without it. Your written-down recovery phrase still restores your account.
Do I still need to write down my recovery phrase?
Yes, we recommend it. The backup is a second copy, so keeping both means a lost password or a lost piece of paper won't lock you out.
Can EXTRA SAFE see my backup?
No. The file is encrypted on your device with your password and stored in your own cloud account. EXTRA SAFE never receives the file or the password.
What happens if I delete my EXTRA SAFE account?
The backup stays in your cloud until you delete it there.
