What are Private Balances, and how do they work?
Private Balances keep how much you hold and how much you send hidden from anyone looking at the blockchain, while every balance stays provable. On most blockchains, a stablecoin transfer sits on a public ledger forever, with the amount, the addresses, and your balance visible to anyone who looks.
How it works
Private Balances are built on eERC, Avalanche’s encrypted standard. It uses zero-knowledge proofs to keep amounts hidden, both when you send and while funds simply sit in your wallet. eERC keeps balances and payments private, while remaining provable for anyone entitled to check.
Your private balance lives on the same wallet address as the rest of your wallet and is restored with the same recovery phrase.
What’s private and what stays visible
- •
Visible on-chain: who you pay
- •
Private: transfer amount, your balance
Who you’re paying still shows on-chain. How much – never does. Block explorers like Snowtrace and Etherscan show the transfer, but not the amount.
How to use Private Balances
1.
Open the Wallet tab and select the Avalanche network.
2.
Choose a stablecoin or AVAX and convert it to its private version.
3.
Your balance appears under Private Balances, shown with asterisks.
4.
To see the amount, tap the eye icon and confirm with your PIN or biometrics. It hides again afterwards.
5.
Send from your private balance the same way as any transfer.
You can convert your private balance back to a regular one any time. [підтвердити]
Where it works
Private Balances are available for stablecoins and AVAX on the Avalanche network. Converting and sending show their full cost before you confirm.
Can the person I pay see the amount?
Yes, in EXTRA SAFE. Your recipient sees the amount after confirming with their PIN. It stays hidden on block explorers.
Do private balances come back if I restore my account?
Yes. Your recovery phrase or encrypted backup restores your private balances along with the rest of your wallet.
